Celebrity Apprentice: Teamwork or Not?

Last night I watched Celebrity Apprentice, the show Donald Trump produces and was shocked to see the behavior the women displayed.

For those of you who have not watched this show on television, the premise is this. You have two teams: the men and the women.  Each team are given a project or task to perform, after they elect a Project Manager, each team leaves to start their task.

The celebrities they choose for the show are so diverse, have huge egos, and are outrageous characters to say the least.  So anything is expected and don’t be surprised by extreme behavior.

What you hope to see is good teamwork exhibited and of course you see nothing but the opposite. This makes for good TV and ratings and I will admit they had me until the end.

What is a Project Manager: Project managers have the responsibility of the planning, execution, and closing of a project. They delegate tasks to different members of the team to help complete the project.

Working as a team can be exhausting emotional and physically as seen in last nights Celebrity Apprentice. What you anticipate from a team is: contributions, ideas, opinions and the hope that everyone is respectable.  But as seen in last nights episode, the women’s team in particular did nothing to work towards positive teamwork and it cost them the price.

A Project Manager in any organization or employment circumstances needs to be confident, a-take-charge-person and assertive. In last night episode, poor Lisa Rinna was shanghaied into this position and subsequently did a poor job and heard those dreadful words: Your Fired.

Or did Lisa really do a poor job?  In her words she got ‘Thrown Under the Bus’ and I think in some respect she did.  Two of her teammates, have overbearing personalities while the other women are wimps and didn’t come to her rescue.  They chose to be silent and not comment.

Having been in the workplace for some 30 plus years, I have run into some negative creepy co-workers and employers.  I have left jobs because of some people’s attitudes and seen some horrendous situations too.  It happens all the time and in some cases impossible to escape…so you learn by experience how to cooperate and work with others, you learn your co-workers personalities and most importantly to keep your mouth shut.

As we get older and mature most of us are aware what our personality and  limitations our. …I’m  a follower not a leader, give me a task and I will do the best job ever. If I know a subject, front and backwards, I would make a good Project Manger but it has to be something I feel comfortable with; otherwise I will fail. Lisa, didn’t feel capable or comfortable being the Project Manager last night and it showed.
