Lake Tahoe and Memories of the Cabin

Lake Tahoe Sightseeing and Memories
After War World II my cousins uncle built a modest cabin in Lake Tahoe, on the South shore of the lake. It has two stories with three bedrooms, one on the main floor and two on the top floor, a good size kitchen and family room. Unfortunately, the cabin was never winterized so going there in the winter to ski was not an option. But during the summer months our family along with other family members would spend a week or two in the cabin.
Lake Tahoe has a lot to offer in every season and here are just a few things you can do on your vacation or stay in Tahoe.
Summer months : try the Helicopter tours, a day at the beach, biking, hiking, a tour of the Vikingsholm castle, carriage rides, water ski school, tennis, spa treatments, sunset dinner cruises, day cruises, golf, river rafting, fishing and of course gambling.
Winter months : host all the available skiing, snowboarding, snow activities you can imagine. Take the tram ride to the top of Heavenly Valley ski resort and enjoy the sleigh rides, don’t forget the famous Squaw Valley ski resort that has so many activities to do. Plus you still have the casinos that are open year round that host some popular concert shows.
Lets face it…there is no way to be bored in Tahoe.
One summer we decided to camp overnight in Tahoe and then head to the cabin the next day to meet up with the rest of the group. There were four of us and we chose a campsite on the Nevada side of Tahoe. Driving up the hill the weather looked threatening but we decided to chance it anyway.
Once at the campsite we pitched two tents, had our dinner and before too long the rain just poured and it wasn't stopping anytime soon. So, we packed it in and headed to the casinos. I was dog tried and found a lounge where I could hang out while the others did their thing. We decided early the next morning since the rain had stopped to head to the cabin and sleep on the deck.
Before long the others arrived and most importantly, my cousin with the key, once inside we claimed our beds, I really needed my beauty sleep. We had a fantastic time that holiday weekend, cooking dinner, enjoying the fire, each others company and gambling.
Needless to say Tahoe, is a beautiful, breathtaking site to see and the largest freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada range and the second deepest lake in the United States. Thank goodness highways provide year round access to Tahoe, although when it snows, a two hour trip can turn into a four hour trip very easily.
Tahoe has been a favorite destination for my family and friends for years. Sadly, about 20 years ago the cabin was sold and no one in the family bought it but it sure holds some wonderful memories for this California gal.

Awesome hub and fabulous pictures. Although I've heard a lot about Tahoe I've never been. Not being a ski person due to knee and back surgeries I seem to forget what all there is to do during other seasons. Thanks for reminding me I hit all the up buttons.
