Would Oprah's Ratings Go Up?

Oprah....How about Us????

Say one day we turn on Oprah and she is interviewing just an ordinary normal person. Someone who gets up every morning Monday through Friday at 5am to start their day for work. Or a student that goes to college, maybe a stay at home mom who takes care of her kids and the household, a dentist or doctor....just someone who has a routine life and what they go through on a daily basis. Does this sound boring already?

Would the Oprah show get top ratings if she interviewed just everyday normal people? I think we all know the answer to this question and unfortunately, the answer is NO. Somehow, a change occurred especially on television, where most people like to watch other people in crisis or we can't wait to see sad, horrible, disgusting things that have happened to other people. This is called 'great ratings' for these programs and my question is....Why!!!! ......MONEY....

The 'normals' have been pushed aside for people with extraordinary events that happened in their life. Most of these events are sad or horrible. I would love to turn on my TV set and see a show like Oprah's or my local news..talking about only the good that happened that day. Of course 'good' doesn't sell ratings and good ratings mean money.

Do you realize that most of our world are 'normals'? We are the folks that pay are taxes and keep this country going. Don't we deserve a chair on Oprah....to tell our stories about how great our childhood was, our marriage is good, we work to provide a nice home and this is what we do for fun.

Yep....this is all too too boring for television or the newspaper. So, nothing will change unless we start to turn off that program or not buy the newspaper. It seems maybe we do lead boring life's and the only source of entertainment is watching someone else in crisis.

One thing I do know....because the 'normals' have seen it all...nothing surprises or shocks me anymore. How sad can that be. In truth, I read the newspaper and I watch Oprah too....maybe we are boring...and that's a good thing.
