The Scary Tap Water

Are we Afraid????
Tap Water…..
When is the last time you actually drank from your tab water? It seems that most of us are afraid and have been for years because we are unsure what is in that water.
Can we get cancer from the lead or toxins that are in that water? Do the
water treatment plants really remove the pollutes? What other harmful bacteria or contaminants are in that water that they want us to drink?
We have become so paranoid and untrusting, that most of us will not drink our tap water without installing a water treatment to filter out all the contaminants or toxins. And then we ask…do they really work…..
Mutants
The water bottle companies are billionaires because we are so unsure.
It leads me to think about my younger days as a kid. We would drink from the hose, water fountains in parks, a water faucet and yes, even our tap water. How in the world are we still alive and kicking?
Lets not forget about people in their 80’s 90’s or 100’s…and we must ask……why they are still breathing?
Were the treatment plants in the 1940’s or 1950’s more sophisticated than now? Or should be believe that the water treatment plants have more technological now?
We must not forget about our furry friends…..the animals, birds, our pets: dog, cat, rabbit, parakeets and even guinea pigs who drink the ‘nasty water’.
Are we nothing but human mutants, with a genetic trait that allows all those toxins to give us super-human powers. Like glowing the dark.
Mind you…..I am paranoid or am I just a sheep, who goes out and pays for that bottled water…….I read that maybe the water in that bottle are subject to less testing and lower standards then my tap water…..but I buy it just the same.
You ask…..do I drink my tap water? No way……unless, I’m taking an aspirin. Then I reach up into the cupboard for a glass and God forbid I turn on that faucet for that ’nasty’ tap water because I only need a drop or two. I taste and swallow….down it goes…..I feel nothing…..no diarrhea…..I feel nothing.

....food for thought ... or in this case, drink for thought - well my neighbor dosen't go into the lake and let his kids go in because apparently people pee in it - lol lol - and so do the fish and the birds and they do number two, too - lol - so I guess sometimes people can get carried away by their myopic ways of thinking - although it's always good to be aware or well informed if you can - I drink the tap water at work and any other water here at my cottage has to be bottled for drinking as I live out in the country and the well water is from rainfall or the water truck if need be - and I don't have a water purification so if there is a will there is a way - lake erie time 6:25pm ontario canada
Hi Marellen,
Great hub! I always drink my tap water but know many people who won't. In all reality (from what I have read one time), tap water is safer then bottled water. There are many rules and regulations in place when it comes to our water companies that supply our tap water. None of these rules apply to bottled water. The way I read it was that you have a better chance of getting bacteria in bottled water. Also if the water was in the plastic bottle and in the sun for too long, the plastic bottle releases toxins that can harm us.
You are welcome Marellen, I really drink either water. I always drink tap at home ( our water doesn't taste as bad as some town water) but if I am out, I will drink bottled water. It is funny tho, I have had people look at me in shock when I tell them our water doesn't taste bad and they reply with "I won't drink that." Somebody was so dead set on bottled water that I thought maybe I had 2 alien heads with the look they gave me!
marellen, It's so funny...ironic that you wrote a hub about this, because I was talking about this topic just recently. I had a house guest, who asked for a drink of water. I told him it was tap, and he cringed! I asked him how do you know if the water you buy is really distilled or spring? ...silence from him! My Grandmother used to say, "I don't know why ya'll buying that bottled water, it ain't nuth'n but tap water!" Sure as crap, some companies were forced to admit that there bottled water was NOT from a spring or distilled!
My Grandmother always boiled her water. I will tell you that once the water is boiled it has a clean, crisp and refreshing taste!
I know this may seem like a lot to do, but really it isnt. Thanks for sharing a GREAT hub!!!
Up and awesome Marellen - Sydney did a science fair project on this topic 2 years ago - she won a first place ribbon! I helped her order a water safety test kit and she compared water from a river, our tap and a bottle - scary - actually the levels of the eight characteristics she tested were pretty close. Tap water and bottled water - no difference! She repeated the tests several times - pretty interesting.
I called our local water company and asked them about this....they said our local plant filters the water before it hits the tap so it's safe as can be!
My husband and I have a mini fridge full of just tap water. That's pretty much all we ever drink at home. We've been doing this for at least 5 years. Him and I have had nothing wrong. Great hub.
Hi marellen,
This is a really fascinating hub. I don't think we have quite the same level of distrust here in Scotland about the water although it is in the news from time to time about how they clean the water etc. I think in England there is a bigger issue about chlorine and fluoride and people don't like the fact of chemcials being added. But that is awful to get to the point where you are worried about drinking water from you own tap. And you have a good point. What do the manufacturer's of bottled water get up to? Are they the ones doing the scare-mongering so that people will buy their product? Stranger things have happened.
I think the thing is today, no matter what you eat, drink, smell, taste there is alwasy going to be something in it we either don't know about or we don't like. It is a sad case that big business and governments do what they like behind the scenes but give you a different face up front.
I really enjoyed this interesting subject.
I always drink my tap water. I really think it's safer than bottled. I saw a documentary stating that the bottled water industry in not regulated. My water tastes good too, some tap water tastes terrible. Interesting Hub. Thank's.....
Hi marellen, I always drink my tap water and it tastes nice, I never drink water at my mum's because that tastes horrid, it's probably fine!
Very interesting hub, thank you for sharing.
Marellan, another interesting hub. I drink only tap water and love it. I refuse to ill the pockets of the rip of merchants. It is not so long since I wrote an article for our local paper comparing the price of bottled water per litre to the cost of milk and of coca cola per litre. Do you know which one is dearer. I think I will write a hub about it.
Nice hub, marellen. I don't think tap water is super toxic, but I'm not sure if it's super clean, either. So I filter my tap water just in case. :)
So very interesting Mary,on such an important.
I think it is a good idea to filter our water, so thanks for making us aware of dangers.
It is a matter of reinforcing some facts we may well have forgotten, but they could be very immportant to our health.
Thanks for sharing and take care
Eiddwen.
I vote this one up and up.
Take care my friend.
Eiddwen.
I always drink out of the tap at home because I have a well and it is artisan water, high in iron but we use a Brita water filter.Once I drank city I was sick for two days I will never drink city water again.
Hi Mar,
I may be one of the few, but generally I do not like the taste of bottled water. That is, unless I put a packet of 5 cal. pink lemonade in it. Good hub, thanks!

I think that when it comes to tap water things have changed. As recently as a year ago, I can recall a story stating that they found pharmaceuticals in tap water. Another thing to consider is that water treatment facilities have saved more lives over the years than all of the doctors combined. If we did not have these water treatment centers all around the country, then I don't think that we could sustain the level of population that we currently have. I think that there is "stuff" in the water and a simple thing to do is to use a filter. Overall it is more cost effective over buying bottled water and how sure are you that the bottled water that you buy isn't just from the tap?
